IPRH READING GROUPS A
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
2007-08
The Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities is pleased to announce
that it will be accepting applications for IPRH Reading Groups for the 2007-08
academic year.
Proposals for IPRH Reading Groups are sought each spring for the following
academic year, and awards are made in amounts up to $1,500 for the full year.
Proposals are encouraged from both new and existing groups, with the possibility
of renewed funding in future years (groups wishing to renew their funding
must submit a proposal to the IPRH; see guidelines, below, for more information).
Reading Groups may be formed around any topic or theme whatsoever; they need
not be coordinated with the IPRH theme for this or any following year.
Reading Groups should aim to foster collaborative study in the humanities and
across disciplines, and to investigate questions of sufficient breadth to draw
scholars from a reasonably diverse array of intellectual traditions. Proposals
from groups that focus on readings of seminal texts and/or works in progress by
the groups members will be invited and considered.
Funds will be made available to Reading Groups to support the following
activities: the purchase and/or duplication of readings; visits by external
speakers; and other expenses related to the operation of the group, including
logistical arrangements, costs associated with public events, and refreshments.
Each Reading Group will be wholly responsible for its own administration,
including all clerical and meeting-related activities and the distribution of
readings and publicity materials. The IPRH will make its facilities available
for use by the Reading Groups, who shall be responsible for scheduling all
facility use in advance with the IPRH staff; all scheduling will be based on
availability. More detailed information will be provided to the organizers of
those groups that are awarded support.
All applications to the IPRH for Reading Group support should include the
following:
-
The names, departmental affiliations, and e-mail addresses of
the group's organizers
-
A short statement (maximum two pages) explaining the goals of
the group and a brief outline of the proposed activities
-
FOR CURRENT IPRH READING GROUPS WISHING TO APPLY FOR RENEWED
FUNDING: Please include a brief, one-paragraph synopsis of the group's
activities for the current year, in addition to the materials requested
above.
Applications are due in the IPRH office,
805 West Pennsylvania Avenue, MC-057 by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2,
2007.
Decisions will be announced in mid-April, and all applicants will be
contacted at that time.
