American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies/Clark One-Month Fellowship (Library Related)
UCLA Center for 17th- and 18th- Century Studies

  • Fellowships jointly sponsored by the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies and the Clark Library are available to postdoctoral scholars and to ABD graduate students with projects in the Restoration or the eighteenth century. Fellowship holders must be members in good standing of ASECS. Awards are for one month of residency, granted to scholars interested in doing research at the Clark library.
  • Stipend: $2,500 for the month of residency.
  • Deadline: February 1 of each year.

Kanner Fellowship in British Studies
UCLA Center for 17th- and 18th- Century Studies (Library Related)

  • This three-month fellowship supports research at the Clark Library in any area pertaining to British history and culture. The fellowship is open to both postdoctoral and predoctoral scholars.
  • Stipend: $7,500 for the three-month tenure.
  • Deadline: February 1 of each year.

Clark Short-Term Fellowships
UCLA Center for 17th- and 18th- Century Studies

  • Fellowship support is available to scholars with research projects that require work in any area of the Clark's collections. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree or have equivalent academic experience. Awards are for periods of one to three months in residence.
  • Stipend: $2,500 per month.
  • All application materials are due at the Center on 1 February of each year.

Clark-Huntington Joint Bibliographical Fellowship
UCLA Center for 17th- and 18th- Century Studies

  • Sponsored jointly by the Clark and the Huntington Libraries, this two-month fellowship provides support for bibliographical research in early modern British literature and history as well as other areas where the two libraries have common strengths. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or have appropriate research experience.
  • Stipend: $5,000 for two months in residence.
  • All application materials are due at the Center for 17th- & 18th-Century Studies on 1 February of each year.

Library Research Grants
Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, CA

  • Library Research Grants provide partial, short-term support for costs relating to travel and living expenses to scholars whose research requires use of specific collections housed in the Research Library at the Getty Research Institute.
  • Library Research Grants are intended for scholars of all nationalities and at any level who demonstrate a compelling need to use materials housed in the Research Library, and whose place of residence is more than eighty miles from the Getty Center. Projects must relate to specific items in the library collection.
  • Library Research Grants are intended to provide partial support for costs relating to travel and living expenses. Library Research Grants range from $500 to $2,500, depending on distance traveled and duration of stay.
  • Deadline: early November

  • The Huntington is an independent research center with holdings in British and American history, literature, art history, and the history of science and medicine.  The Library collections range chronologically from the eleventh century to the present and include a half-million rare books, nearly six million manuscripts, 600,000 photographs, and a large ephemera collection, supported by a half-million reference works.

Long-Term Research Fellowships at the Huntington

    Eligibility:  Non-tenured faculty
    Tenure of fellowship:  9-12 months
    Amount of award:  $40,000
    Fellowship is designed to support non-tenured faculty members who are revising a manuscript for publication. Applicants must be pursuing scholarship in a field appropriate to The Huntington's collections and must have received the PhD between 2003 and 2005.

  • Mellon Fellowships
    Eligibility:  PhD or equivalent. (Must have received PhD by June 2007)
    Tenure of fellowship:  9-12 months
    Amount of award:  $40,000
    Applicants must be pursuing scholarship in a field appropriate to The Huntington's collections.

  • National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowships
    Eligibility:  PhD or equivalent. (Must have received PhD by June 2007 - This is a requirement of The Huntington, not the NEH)
    Tenure of fellowship:  4-12 months
    Amount of award:  Up to $40,000
    Applicants must be pursuing scholarship in a field appropriate to The Huntington's collections.
